The DoD CDMRP has released 3 funding opportunities in lung cancer research:
(1) Early Investigator Synergistic Idea Award: Supports collaborations between two independent investigators early in their careers who address an innovative and high-impact lung cancer research questions from synergistic and complementary perspectives. This award is designed to promote collaborations between a clinician and laboratory scientist. (2 years period of performance; maximum allowable funding for the entire period of performance is $400,000 in direct costs).
(2) Investigator-Initiated Translational Research Award: Supports translational research that will accelerate the movement of promising ideas in lung cancer into clinical applications, must include preliminary data that is relevant to lung cancer and the proposed project. This award does not support clinical trials, but may support correlative studies that are associated with an existing clinical trial and projects that develop endpoints for clinical trials (3 years and funding for the entire period of performance is $525,000 in direct costs).
(3) Promising Clinician Research Award: Supports a research project performed by promising physician-researchers. This award is intended to prepare physicians with clinical duties and/or responsibilities for an independent and active career in lung cancer research, previous experience in lung cancer research is allowed, but not required (3 years period and funding for the entire period of performance is $375,000 in direct costs).
