The NIH Centers of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE) Program is an opportunity available to institutions within South Carolina and other Institutional Development Award (IDeA) eligible states. The objective is to strengthen an institution's biomedical research infrastructure through the establishment of a thematic, multi-disciplinary center and to enhance the ability of investigators to compete independently for NIH research grants or other external peer-reviewed support. Only one application per institution per fiscal year is allowed.

We anticipate receiving a Notice of Award for a currently pending COBRE Phase I proposal by March 2014. Therefore, MUSC will be eligible to submit one new competitive proposal for a new NIH Center of Biomedical Research Excellence (P20) grant in early 2015. Because only one application per institution per fiscal year is allowed, the MUSC Office of Research Development will coordinate an internal review/selection process to identify the proposal for submission.

The full Funding Opportunity Announcement LINK:

Note that in order to coordinate a fair, objective internal selection process and provide adequate time for development and fine-tuning of a highly competitive proposal, we have developed a timeline with firm target dates as shown below.

The Office of Research Development (ORD) will coordinate the internal review process and assist the selected group with full proposal development and submission.
